The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Bright Asamoah Brefo, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Sebastian Obeng, have distributed 10,000 customised exercise books and 5,000 pens to basic schools across the constituency, as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning in the area.
Beneficiary schools include the AGBL, Methodist, Community, Presbyterian and Lineso primary schools, among others.
According to the lawmaker, the donation was part of a broader vision to promote quality learning and to provide schoolchildren with essential materials to excel academically.
At a short ceremony to present the items to the schoolchildren, the two leaders emphasised education as the foundation for societal development and national progress.
They emphasised the importance of providing learners with essential materials, not only to boost motivation but also to ease the financial burden on parents, thereby fostering a more supportive environment for effective teaching and learning.
Mr Asamoah Brefo advised parents to invest in the education of their children in order to secure a better future for them, since education is the best legacy parents could bequeath to their children.
He promised to complete ongoing educational projects started by the former MP to tackle infrastructure gaps in the municipality.
The Municipal Director of Education for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, Richard Boateng, charged teachers and parents to ensure that children use the exercise books wisely to achieve the intended purpose of the donation.
The Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, lauded the MP's exceptional initiative, which he believed would produce scholars in the area soon.
He advised schoolchildren to limit their time on social media, especially TikTok, and focus on their education for a brighter future.
The chief, who is also the President of the National House of Chiefs, urged individuals and companies operating in the municipality to follow the MP's example and support the children.
