The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted amnesty to all members who were suspended or had disciplinary cases pending, but ruled that they will not be eligible to contest any internal election for the next two years.

The decision was taken by the National Council at an emergency meeting held on July 25, 2025.

The party explained that the measure is aimed at promoting unity and reconciliation as it prepares for future political activities.

In a directive issued on August 16 and signed by Acting National Chairman, Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, the NPP said the resolution “lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against affected members.”

Mr. Buttey stated that members who forfeited their membership must apply formally to the national secretariat if they wish to return.

He added that while reinstated members will be readmitted, they will remain ineligible to contest in internal elections for a mandatory two-year period.

The directive also instructed party leaders at all levels to avoid arbitrary suspensions, emphasising that disciplinary matters must be handled in line with the constitution, due process, and established procedures.

The NPP said the measure is intended to foster internal harmony, strengthen solidarity, and ensure collective preparation for political tasks ahead.
