The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Tamale, Adam Abubakar Takoro, has pledged to work closely with relevant stakeholders to drive the needed development for the area.
This, he said, would be in line with the government's reset agenda aimed at accelerating development across the country.
He stated that meaningful development could only be achieved through unity and the involvement of chiefs, opinion leaders and the general public.
“My efforts will be meaningless without the backing of our traditional authorities and community stakeholders,” he added.
Alhaji Takoro made the remarks during his swearing-in after securing a unanimous endorsement from all 58 assembly members of the assembly last Monday.
The exercise, which was supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), saw one absentee out of 59 eligible voters.
In his victory speech, Alhaji Takoro thanked the assembly members for the overwhelming endorsement, describing his nomination by the President as a call to serve with integrity and commitment.
“With the support of assembly members and stakeholders, we will work tirelessly to develop the great Tamale Metropolis,” he stated.
The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, expressed confidence in the MCE as he was the longest-serving assembly member in the region.
He said, “The confirmation is a clear indication that the assembly is ready to support progress. I urge the people, especially our traditional leaders, to back the MCE in his quest to transform Tamale.”
The Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central Constituency, Dr Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim, also advised the new MCE to collaborate with chiefs and opinion leaders to tackle pressing issues, particularly the increasing rate of drug abuse among the youth.
“This is one of the challenges holding back the potential of our young people. I urge all stakeholders to support any initiative aimed at addressing this menace,” he stressed.
