Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Mr Justice Srem-Sai, has dismissed claims that the state is trying Mr Kwabena Adu-Boahen and his wife in the media, following concerns raised in a public statement by the couple’s lawyers.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on March 24 2025, Mr Srem-Sai said the Attorney-General’s disclosures regarding the case were carefully considered and legally sound.

“We won’t entertain trial-by-media,” he said. “We’ve released only what is necessary to inform the public without compromising the investigation or judicial process.”

His remarks come in response to a statement issued by lawyers for Mr Adu-Boahen, which criticised what they described as prejudicial disclosures by the state.

The lawyers argued that, “if persons are innocent, they must not be destroyed in public before their day in court,” adding that investigations should not be reduced to propaganda or political commentary.

Mr Srem-Sai maintained that the state’s actions have been within the bounds of the law and are part of efforts to keep the public informed while pursuing justice.

He noted that extradition procedures and foreign asset recovery processes are ongoing in connection with the alleged embezzlement and laundering of GH¢39 million.

According to investigators, Mr Adu-Boahen and his wife are accused of transferring GH¢16 million from a government account into a private company with a similar name, allegedly under their control. The funds were reportedly used to acquire 27 properties in Ghana and abroad.

The Deputy Attorney-General urged critics to respect the legal process and advised those with concerns to use the appropriate judicial channels rather than the media.
