Media personality and gender advocate, Josephine Oppong-Yeboah, has called on the current government of prioritise the appointment of more women in political office.
She believes that empowering women to take on leadership roles is essential for the country’s progress and prosperity.
Speaking during an interview on Monday, February 17 2025, Ms Oppong-Yeboah stressed the importance of equal representation in political decision-making, noting that women bring unique perspectives and solutions to the table.
Ms. Oppong-Yeboah commended the government for appointing women to key positions, but emphasized the need to tap into the vast potential of many more Ghanaian women, advocating for a broader inclusion of women in key governmental positions across all sectors.
“Women are a vital part of the fabric of our society. If we are truly committed to advancing our nation, it is crucial that we elevate more women to political leadership positions,” she noted.
Ms Oppong-Yeboah, who has long been a vocal supporter of gender equality, expressed the view that “women are just as capable as their male counterparts, and their contributions can significantly shape the country’s future.”
In addition to advocating for increased women’s representation in politics, Ms Oppong-Yeboah also stressed the importance of women proving their worth once appointed.
She encouraged those already in political positions to go beyond mere ceremonial roles and deliver results that can improve the lives of Ghanaians.
“Women in political offices should not just occupy seats; they must work tirelessly to prove that they are deserving of these positions,” she stated.
In addition, she said, “They must deliver concrete results and show the country that women are not just capable but can lead effectively and efficiently.”
