Madam Janet Adade, a farmer and aspiring Assembly Member for Akpafu Odomi in the Jasikan District of the Oti Region has called on women to participate in local governance to help tackle issues affecting women in the electoral areas.
She said local governance was largely about issues affecting women like sanitation and water challenges hence necessary that women were involved in decision making at that level.
Madam Adade said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and appealed to the electorate in her area to give her the nod.
She noted that the were some issues concerning women that required their maximum input in decision making and implementation of policies, adding that "it is only women who can talk about their problems and challenges."
Madam Adade said if elected, she would tackle the educational needs of the community by liaising with various committees in charge of education to make sure teachers were sent to schools that needed them.
She said she would work with the District Health Directorate to lobby for health staff and resources for the community health centre.
Madam Adade said she would support rice farmers especially women farming groups by lobbying for the provision of rice processing machinery to enable them process all their produce to generate more income and employ other young women in the community.
She promised to ensure improvement in sanitation through the organisation of frequent communal works and added that more schools would be rolled on to the School Feeding programme.
Madam Adade said lack of resources, support from fellow women as well as derogatory comments from some community members were affecting her campaign and called on governance institutions and non-governmental organisations to empower women aspirants and encourage them to local governance.
