Residents of Bajorhe Lutah electoral area in the Sege constituency say they need more detailed explanations on the upcoming referendum to make a bold decision come December 17.
Some of them are with the view that they needed the National Commission for Civic Education or experts to explain to them vividly on what the 'YES' or 'NO' means, its benefits and negative effects.
They said this when they called on their former Assembly member, Mr. David Narh Amuyao, to help them appreciate the referendum since the NCCE in the district had not educated them on the issue.
In his short presentation, the former Presiding Member, who doubled as the National President for Presiding members said, no Ghanaian was above the 1992 Constitution
"Meanwhile, there are clauses that the lawmakers can change easily without consulting anybody. There are also clauses which only the people can change by means of referendum as we are going to on December 17.
" Example is article 55(3), which forbids political parties from openly supporting someone or mounting campaign platforms for persons in our local elections. This clause has been entrenched and only the citizenry can change it.
Also is article 243(1) which allows the president to nominate MMDCEs for assembly members to confirm them. The lawmakers can change this clause without consulting the citizenry, "he said.
He added that if Ghanaians agreed for article 55(3) to be changed by voting 'YES', it meant that there would still be some consequencial amendments before this changing would work.
Even though the only former assembly member who is going unopposed in the Ada West district was able to answer some questions of both the positive and negative outcomes of the referendum, he still referred many other questions to NCCE and other party executives to answer be no official of the NCCE was available.
About 80% of the community members made up their minds of voting 'NO' in the referendum with the excuse that they did not really know the actual meaning of the referendum.
"I will vote 'NO' because I am confused and don't know what to choose because both NPP and NDC are now opposing each other on the issue yet, they couldn't come out to explain what they really meant to us," Alfred Gidimadjor said.
"If we allow our local elections to go political, then it means even a husband, wife and children will be each other's throat because of politics so I will vote 'No, '" Christian Ahuahe added.
After coming out with these and many similar views, they asked the former presiding Member to let those in position come and explain into details all the questions he referred to other officers else they will vote 'NO'.
