A Valentine Day blood donation by MTN Ghana Foundation has revived performance the Volta Regional Blood bank.
The "save a Life" blood donation campaign by the Foundation to mark Val's Day attracted huge patronage with expected 150 units of blood for the blood bank, said to be experiencing "dry season".
As early as 0700 hours, some students of the Ho Technical University thronged the event ground to donate freely to restock the blood bank.
"This is very timely because we are in blood dry season now. We have only about 40 units of blood for the whole hospital including our new wards and new services so we need this badly," Mr Vincent Fekpe, Regional Blood Organizer said.
He said as a referral hospital, the facility needed to have not less than 200 units of blood in stock and commended MTN Ghana Foundation for the intervention.
Mr Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager for Sustainability and Social Impact, MTN Ghana Foundation, said the annual event instituted in 2011 was aimed at saving lives.
"Our interest in this event is driven by the fact that we need a healthy society to be able to enjoy our services. As we work hard to connect societies and delight them with our services we must also show interest in their lives," he said.
