CIMG Telecoms Company of the year, Vodafone Ghana in its commitment to bring cutting edge technology to their customers and lead in innovation, has worked with Microsoft to allow the seamless integration of their mobile broadband devices in the newly launched Windows 8 operating system.
The Windows 8 Operating System is an all-new touch interface reinvented from the principles of the Windows 7 speed and reliability. It introduces significant changes to the Windows 7 operating systems platform, primarily focused towards providing a seamless integration between mobile devices, tablets and laptops whilst taking advantage of new or emerging technologies such as cloud computing.
In order to allow customers to switch to this new operating system with ease, Vodafone engaged with Microsoft at the development stage of Windows 8 to allow their mobile broadband devices, currently compatible on Windows 7, to also be used on Windows 8 without the need to download new software or drivers.
Ebeneser Ampadu, Head of Terminals at Vodafone Ghana explains further. 'The installation software for our dongles and Mifi devices is now embedded in the windows 8 operating system so that when our customers plug in their devices it automatically detects it and launches the Vodafone mobile broadband application. We have also developed a new web interface in Windows 8 that allows our customers to monitor their data usage, top up and generally give them better control of their browsing experience.'
Ebezener also revealed Vodafone Ghana's plans to bring the first Windows 8 smartphone to Ghana. 'The HTC 8x will be available on the Vodafone network in selected Vodafone retail shops this week. We pride ourselves in ensuring that our customers get first access to the best and most innovative devices. The Windows 8 HTC 8x gives a unique user experience because it is designed with people in mind and allows the user to personalize their device, giving the better control. This technology coupled with the fastest network in Ghana, means that our customers get a mobile experience that is out of this world. We were first to bring the Samsung Galaxy S II, the Blackberry Torch and now the HTC 8x and our customers can always look to us to bring them the latest devices with cutting edge technology.'
