ABOUT Mobile Web Ghana
Mobile Web Ghana is a community of mobile-technology entrepreneurs, developed as part of the World Wide Web Foundation's Mobile Entrepreneurship in Africa program. It is sponsored by Vodafone.
MWG provide mobile entrepreneurship training for people who want to learn mobile technology or mobile businesses. The first session was held in Accra, from 24 February 2011 to 19 March. Mobile Web Ghana is a community of Ghanaian mobile entrepreneurs, and people interested in the Mobile Web. We provide training in mobile technology and business, to help local talent build applications for local communities. We also provide discussion forums, networking events and links between application developers, mobile network operators and established businesses.
The MWG first training covered creating mobile applications to putting it to market. Mobile entrepreneurs were passionate about leveraging mobile phone technology to develop applications that will bring useful service to local communities and create prosperous businesses.
About World Wide Web Foundation
We envision a world where all people are empowered by the Web. Everyone — regardless of language, ability, location, gender, age or income — will be able to communicate and collaborate, create valued content, and access the information that they need to improve their lives and communities. The creativity of the billions of new Web users will be unleashed. The Web’s capabilities will multiply, and play an increasingly vital role in reducing poverty and conflict, improving healthcare and education, reversing global warming, spreading good governance and addressing all challenges, local and global.
We are far from seeing our vision through to its rightful conclusion, and serious challenges stand in the way. The unique mission of the World Wide Web Foundation is to realize this vision through transformative programs which advance the Web technically by breaking down barriers and building capabilities, and which advance the Web socially, as a medium that empowers people to bring about positive change.
