• As school’s performance in BECE hikes from 43% to 100%
September 18, 2010, Odumase-Krobo: Just a year after Zain Ghana reconstructed the six block classroomof the Odumase Presby Junior High School in the Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region, the students have performed remarkably in the Basic Education Certificate Exams (BECE) as pass rates hike from 43% to 100%
This year, for the first times since 1997 when academic performance in the school started deteriorating, all the candidates presented for the exams emerged victorious with grades that qualify them for the ongoing placement in the senior high schools.
Also, what seemed to be an endless cycle of poor performance was broken as last year’s best grade of 17 was further brought down to 12, raising hopes high and restoring smiles back on the faces of the schools authorities, parents and community leaders.
Headmaster of the school, Nene Seth Ayertey admitted, “We are stunned at the speedy effect of the new facility and its accompanying ambiance on the performance of the students, they seemed to have gained some form of confidence which is really urging them on for success. The swift gesture by Zain did not only save lives but impacted positively on an entire generation and so will it on many more to come. We have already set in motion several plans that will ensure that the 100% fete is sustained and even improved upon with single grades in the subsequent batches who would have adequately benefitted from the facilities
The Corporate Communications Manager of Zain Ghana, Mrs. Carmen Bruce-Annan, remarking on the phenomenon said “It’s satisfying seeing our initiatives particularly in the area of education making a lifelong impact on the inhabitants of our host communities especially children who will soon be needed to step out in confidence to take up the mantle of leadership in their communities and the nation at large. Ours is a full commitment to helping raise the standard of education in the country. We have demonstrated our further commitment by posting a Computer Engineering graduate to teach IT in the school for a whole year and also paid for the internet access in the school. This has, no doubt, placed both teachers and pupils on an equal, if not better platform as their counterparts in other parts in the cities.â€
