• A befitting birthday gift to crown Happy FM’s seventh anniversary celebrations
Happy Sports, the daily sports magazine programme on Happy98.9FM has been adjudged by the Chartered Institute of Marketing – Ghana (CIMG) as the Radio Programme of The Year, 2009. This award is a perfect climax to Happy FM’s seventh anniversary celebrations which started on 3rd September.
Happy FM has previously won several awards including The Football Station of the Year in 2008 and the Station of the Year consecutively in 2005 and 2006. This latest award is an incontestable verdict that Happy FM is the nation’s best sport radio station.
Going by its tag line “Happy Sports: Le Numero Un!†Happy Sports distinguished itself as the superior radio programme having triumphed in a rigorous competition with all other popular programmes in the country.
Hosted by a team of ace sports broadcasters including Charles Osei Asibey, Swanzy Asuman, Joe Debrah, Mac-Paradise Okocha, Odiasempa Kwame Oware, Happy Sports is a two hour programme that runs from 6am - 8am and 10am – 12 pm every weekdays. Happy Sports is a total sports dish presenting to listeners sports news from Ghana and around the globe. The programme is enriched with interviews with celebrity sportsmen/sportswomen and sport administrators, interlaced with analyses by professional in-house and guest commentators. Among the celebrities hosted on Happy Sports include retired French footballer Marcel Desailly, Black Stars Captain Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan, Braima Kamoko (a.k.a Bukom Banku), Joseph Agbeko, Aziz Zakari, Vida Anim, Daniel Amokchi of Nigeria, Yaya Toure of Cote’d’Ivore and Joseph Sepp Blatter of FIFA among others.
Happy FM belongs to the Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC) together with Y107.9FM, the official radio frequency for the young and the young at heart; Anigye102.5FM, known for quality entertainment in Kumasi; and e.tv Ghana a free-to-air channel offering viewers a world of quality TV. As part of activities marking its seventh anniversary, Happy98.9FM held a live band/dinner at Poks Canteen, organised a clean-up exercise at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital and held a massive street jams with Hip-life trio VIP at Nima Highway to celebrate with all Muslims after the Ramadan. The Station also held a thanksgiving service at the Word Miracle Church International where Bishop Agyin Asare prophesied into the future of the station.
