• Connects teachers and pupil to the rest of the world with a high speed internet access
Driven by the passion and commitment to create the best of platforms for sound academic education in the country, leading telecoms provider, Zain Ghana, has established a contemporary ICT laboratory for the teachers and pupils of the Nkotompo AME Zion Basic School in the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis in the Western Region.
The 21-seater facility which was handed over to the beneficiaries recently also links them to the rest of the word with its high speed internet access, placing both the tutors and pupil on a similar pedestal as their counterparts in the cities and the developed world.
The gesture from the telco forms part of the prizes awarded the school when it found favour in Zain through one of the company’s most impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiative; Touching Lives which sought to publicly acknowledge, celebrate and reward the unsung heroes in our society – the people who have remarkably displayed acts of kindness even in very difficult circumstances in the various communities.
Apart from the various items presented to the school such as computers, air conditioners, fans, a multi-purposed printer, tables and chairs, the students went home happier, having received gifts in varied forms including lap desks from Zain.
Established in 1920, the school now boasts of a student population of 565 comprising the primary and the junior high school.
In his remark during the presentation ceremony held in the school premises, the head teacher of the school, Mr. Wisdom Boamah, said “it saddens me when I think of the fact that a vast majority of pupils in the basic school and even in some high schools have no access to facilities like this, considering the increasing use of technology in all aspects of lifeâ€.
“However, today, I find comfort with a renewed hope and believe triggered by this gesture by Zain Ghana. This company since inception in this country has been foremost in lending a helping hand in developmental initiatives too numerous to mention to the people of this nation. Forever, the students, teachers and the community in general will never forget your kindnessâ€, Boamah added.
He further revealed that computer literacy has virtually become a way of life, for that matter a necessity yet only a handful of privileged ones get access; this explains why an intervention like this cannot be underestimated. Your proposition of creating a wonderful world is really in sync with your actionsâ€. You don’t only say it but you do it too and we are gratefulâ€, he stated.
On her part, Manager of Corporate Communication & External Affairs of Zain Ghana, Carmen Bruce-Annan said “Gone are the days when computer and the likes were considered luxury. In this information age, you simply cannot do without them. It is rather unfortunate that in our part of the world, access to things like this has been limited. This is not the first time we are intervening in this manner and as a responsible corporate citizen, it shall not be the last as we are continuously committed to not only provide Ghanaians with excellent telecommunications experience at all times, but also in providing them with comfort and peace of mind through sustainable initiatives that will add value and make this world a wonderful place for them to live in.
