Mr Emmanuel Amarquaye, Executive Chairman, WiseWater Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation on Tuesday said the only way to meet the many challenges facing public schools is to employ business and marketing modules to raise funds. He said this could be done by lobbying businesses operating in communities to support the schools with part of their social intervention budget.
"We can work together with the schools to raise funds both in cash and in kind to solve the many challenges confronting the delivery of quality education".
Mr Amarquaye made this observation at the fourth official presentation of 100 whiteboards since November 2011 by the company in collaboration with Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to some selected schools in the Accra.
The schools include the Adabraka Cluster of Schools which received 20 boards, Osu Cluster of Schools, 10 boards, Ayalolo Cluster of Schools, 20 boards, and Dansoman Cluster of Schools, 10 boards. Others are Odorkor Cluster of Schools, 10 boards, Fadaman/Abeka Cluster of Schools, 20 and La Cluster of Schools 10 boards.
He said the world had moved on since into an information age where computers, internet, IPod and Smartphones had become the tools that were needed to compete.
He said the inhaling of chalk dust and dust going into the eyes and on the cloths of teachers had made the continued use of chalk and the black board a health hazard to teachers, and that the white board was the best technology that could facilitate teaching and learning.
He expressed his appreciation to SSNIT for accepting their proposal and coming on board with the largest donation in helping to save the eyes of hard working teachers.
Mr Jonathan Cato, Public Education Manager of SSNIT, said the exercise formed part of the corporate social responsibility of the company, adding that the initiative was a laudable one by the Foundation.
He said the blackboard caused a lot of hazard to teachers, and the initiative would help in preventing such hazards, saying this would promote quality education by providing a comfortable environment for teachers to give out their best.
