Law & Order: For two decades, Law & Order has gripped viewers with its engrossing combination of police investigation and courtroom prosecution, but the20th season will finally bring the longest running crime series in television history to an end. In the season opener Detectives Cyrus Lupo and Kevin Bernard investigate the murder of a young war veteran, Greg Tanner. The detectives connect the murder to a law professor who had previously worked for the Department of Justice. However when the case is brought to court, new revelations suggest that Tanner had been more deeply affected by the war than was previously thought. Soon the focus begins to shift from murder to ethical and moral issues concerning modern warfare and even the Bush administration itself. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Van Buren announces some very shocking news to her squad concerning her health, and District Attorney Jack McCoy deals with the stress of winning the election.
