An official of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) has appealed to the Ghana Education Service to take steps to revive music education especially at basic and second-cycle levels.
Mr. Samuel F. Adjei, Director of the Kumasi branch of the CNC, said the revival of, for instance the brass band concept of music, would in the long term help to nurture and tap musical talents at the grassroots.
It would also help to restore back to the society aspects of music such as live band and hi-life which were gradually becoming extinct.
Mr. Adjei was speaking at the Second Private Schools Brass Band Festival to coincide with the African Union (AU) Day held in Kumasi on Monday.
Seven schools - Cambridge Complex, Sea International, Holy Ghost, Maria Montessori, Mount Olivet, Hill Top International and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Basic schools - participated in the event.
Earlier on, the participants went on a procession through some streets around the CNC with brass band music to sensitise the public on the essence of brass band.
Mr Adjei said he was not happy about the neglect of musical talents at the grassroots and this had led the youth with that potential to go wayward later in life since there was no clear-cut policy laid down to ensure a consistent development of their God-given talents.
