Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, Mampong Divisional Police Commander, has advised restaurant and food joint operators, butchers, as well as livestock rearers to ensure that unwholesome animals are not slaughtered for public consumption.
He also urged them to adhere to hygienic practices to avoid the spread of diseases among domestic animals, which could also be transmitted to humans.
Chief Superintendent Oduro-Kwarteng made the call when he visited some hospitability industries, butchers, cattle rearers and chop bar keepers in some districts in the Mampong Divisional Command.
Some of the Districts he visited included Agona, Kumawu, Effiduase, and Ejura.
The visit he noted was also aimed at educating the public on the need to confine domestic animals to prevent them from being stolen and causing havoc to public property.
He warned against stealing of animals and said anyone caught with stolen animals would face the full rigors of the law.
The Police Commander also urged the public to cooperate with the Police to curb crime and armed robbery in the municipality.
He advised them to initiate clean-up exercises periodically at the slaughter houses and the market places to improve sanitation and control diseases in the area.
Dr. S. Effah, Municipal Environmental Officer, who accompanied the Police Commander, spoke on laws rules and regulations governing the slaughtering of animals and their conveyance to the butcher's shop.
