Mr George Hikah Benson, Upper West Regional Minister, has called for the formation of Council of Elders throughout the country to help counsel the youth to become responsible citizens.
He said indiscipline and cultural decadence among the youth had become a worry and all must put in good programmes and interventions to address this social canker that had eaten into the fibre of the youth.
Mr Benson made the call when Catholic Bishop Paul Bemile of Wa, and Alhaji Abdulah Issahaque, a businessman and recipient of this year's National Honours, called on him at his office to express gratitude to President John Agyekum Kufuor.
He said the formation of such Councils would serve as a vibrant resource centre for the youth to acquire knowledge.
Mr Benson tasked the Catholic Church to lead the crusade in the formation of such Councils by collaborating with District Assemblies to make it work.
He congratulated Bishop Bemile and Alhaji Issahaque for winning the awards, saying; "you have done a lot to move the Region forward and you have achieved a lot for the Region through wise counselling and prayers that had helped to bring us far."
Bishop Bemile said the awards they had won were not for them but for the people of the Region.
He urged Ghanaians to conduct themselves properly to ensure peaceful elections this year for the world to emulate.
"We must work to sustain the peace that is prevailing in the country," he said.
Bishop Bemile said the Catholic Church in the Region was praying for peaceful elections and urged other religious organizations to do same for God's blessings to keep the country together.
