Nana Ansah Kwadwo, Mankrado of Topease in the West Akim District, has urged parents to provide their children with moral education as well as practical and acceptable values.
In this way, they would grow up to become honest, committed, dedicated and hardworking citizens.
This, he said would encourage the children to contribute meaningfully to the country's sustainable development.
He stated that it was important for parents to invest in their children's education and pay frequent visit to them to encourage them to be committed to their academic work.
The Mankrado said a lot of parents had reneged on their responsibilities, thus forcing their children to rely on their peers for advice and directives.
He said lack of parental control and supervision impacted negatively on children, because most of them spent countless hours in watching pornographic films and indulging in premarital sex, which exposed them to numerous infectious diseases.
Nana Ansah Kwadwo urged parents to spend time with their children and observe them critically, so as to identify their needs and assist them where necessary.
Madam Rose Otchere, Headmistress of the Topease Methodist Basic School, expressed appreciation to the School Management Committee (SMC) and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for their vision in bringing development to the area.
She said their vision would continue to shape the course of Topease Township's social and economic emancipation.
Madam Otchere advised communities in the West Akim District to integrate their economies to provide more employment avenues for the youth, in order to minimise social unrest and agitation among them.
She stated that children were the nation's future leaders and that if they were denied parental care, it would not augur well for all.
The Headmistress appealed to the district assembly and other benevolent societies to assist them with social amenities, to enhance their standards of living.
She urged parents and the Topease Community to continue the good work initiated by the founders of the school, since "education brings progress and development".
