The authorities of Saint Anne's Anglican School Complex in Kumasi have been accused of preventing three candidates of the school from writing their last paper of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which ended last Friday.
Mr Agyekum Alhassan Frimpong, Assistant Headmaster and Mr Emmanuel Adjei, Twi teacher, were alleged to have prevented Masters Daniel Agyemang-Badu, Kenneth Opoku and Obed Aboagye, from writing the 'Twi' paper, accusing the candidates of uncouth
haircut.
Briefing the GNA in Kumasi, Mr. Sarpong Kumankuma, an aggrieved parent of one of the affected candidates, explained that on the morning of April 29, the candidates arrived at the school's premises to be conveyed in the school bus to the examination centre at Dichemso Junior Secondary School.
According to him, the school authorities scolded the pupils of uncouth haircut and instructed them to trim their hair before allowing them to take part in the examination.
The three candidates, Mr. Kumankuma continued, therefore went to buy a blade apparently to trim their hair but on arrival the school authorities whipped Agyemang-Badu mercilessly which made the other boys ran away.
Agyemang-Badu after struggling with the teachers escaped with others depriving them the opportunity to write their last examination paper.
When Mrs Theresa Osei Tutu, the Headmistress, was contacted by the GNA, she refused to comment on the case, saying instruction had come from the Kumasi Metropolitan Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) that no one should grant interview to any media house without its approval.
