The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has met with Lebanese and Israeli armies to discuss how to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, local newspaper The Daily Star reported.
UNIFIL Commander Major-General Claudio Graziano was quoted as saying the meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and "It was a productive meeting".
Expressing his satisfaction with the progress that had been made in the meeting, Graziano said "I look forward to the coordination arrangements contributing to an improved level of confidence on the ground."
Meanwhile, UNIFIL spokesperson Liam Mac Dowell noted that the parties agreed to hold meetings "once per month".
The tripartite meeting was held at the UNIFIL headquarters in Lebanon's southern town of Naqoura on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the UNIFIL said one issue on the agenda was "full respect" for the Blue Line, which UNIFIL has been remarking after some markers were knocked over or destroyed during last year's summer war between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah.
Attendees also conferred on the status of the village of Ghajar, the last position occupied by Israeli forces since its soldiers left southern Lebanon on Oct. 1 2006, with a view to expediting the withdrawal of the Israeli army from this area to south of the Blue Line.
Straddling the Israeli-Lebanese border, north part of Ghajar locates on the Lebanese side but was occupied by Israel with anaim
of preventing arms smuggling and infiltrations.
A 34-day-long fighting between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas erupted in July 2006. The UN Resolution 1701 brought the war to an end on Aug. 14 in the same year.
