Under the programme, about 60 students from the West African sub region are given scholarships to study green Hydrogen in Germany. The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) is leading the programme Mr Fredrik Landshoft, German’s Ambassador to Ghana said Africa held a huge collection of renewable energy and it was important to nurture the minds and skills to explore it. He said: “Education unlocks opportunities”, and Germany is proud to partner WASCAL in the masters programme. 

Professor Emmanuel Wendsongre Ramde, Executive Director at WASCAL, said the International Masters Programme in Energy and Green Hydrogen was a seed of hope for home grown science and innovative solutions to climate issues. “More than 120 students in West Africa have completed the two and half year scholarship programme,” Prof. Ramde said and pointed out that the programme was about shaping the future. Prof. Christoph Rovekamp, Head of the Division F22 of BMFTR (The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space) in Germany commended WASCAL for the programme, saying, ” WASCAL connects people, states and innovative ideas across Africa” 

He announced the addition of another German partner on board the programme and expressed hope that they would be able to welcome more green hydrogen students. WASCAL also launched the WASCAL Innovative Ideas Competition for Sustainable Energy (WISE) to encourage the development of green hydrogen energy ideas and solutions.
