The Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana (IIA Ghana) has organised a health walk in Tamale as part of activities to mark the celebration of this year’s Audit Service Month.
The health walk, which brought together various stakeholders including internal audit professionals, was to highlight the importance of internal auditing in promoting transparency and effective resource management across the country.
The celebrants walked through principal streets of Tamale, holding placards with inscriptions such as: “We are Not Fault Finders, We are Your Partners and Advisors”, “We Strengthen Systems and Safeguard Assets”, and “We Wear Integrity as a Badge of honour”.
The event served as a platform for internal auditors, government officials and other relevant stakeholders to network, discuss challenges, share best practices and explore ways to strengthen internal audit functions in the region.
Mr Joseph Dakora Zumasigee, President of IIA Ghana, addressing the press during the event, underscored the crucial role internal auditors played in promoting good governance, risk management and effective control processes within institutions.
He emphasised the importance of integrity in the audit profession saying, “It is essential for internal auditors to conduct themselves professionally. By utilising IIA resources, internal auditors can deliver high-quality services that meet the needs of their organisations.”
Mr Zumasigee said: “In today’s rapidly changing world, internal auditors must be strategic thinkers, continuous learners, and approachable professionals committed to helping their organisations thrive.”
He highlighted a significant milestone achieved by IIA Ghana saying its collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) has led to the approval for full ICAG members to sit for the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Challenge Examination.
He said the approval had been extended for another year covering the 2025/2026 CIA Challenge Examination window.
Mr Zumasigee encouraged members to take advantage of the available opportunities to enhance their skills and contribute meaningfully to their professional growth and the broader development of the audit profession.
Mr Ali Adolf John, Northern Regional Minister, who was represented by Mr Ewuntomah Sumaila Abudu, Chief Director, Northern Regional Coordinating Council, commended IIA Ghana for choosing the region to host the celebration.
He noted that it was a demonstration of IIA Ghana’s commitment to engaging stakeholders across the country and raising awareness about the internal audit profession.
He said: “This initiative is a reflection of IIA Ghana’s dedication to promoting good governance and effective resource management.”
