Alhaji Seidu Haruna, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wenchi Constituency in the Bono Region, has presented 50 dual desks and 26 bicycles to school children in three basic schools in the Wenchi Municipality.
The 12 students of the Siekrom Basic School and 14 students of the Mallam Basic School benefited from the bicycles, with the Mensakrom Roman Catholic School receiving the 50 dual desks.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a presentation ceremony held at Mensahkrom, Alhaji Seidu said the items were in fulfilment of a promise he made to the communities in the 2024 electioneering.
"During my visit to the schools, I realised that some of the pupils sit on the bare floor to learn and I promise to help them", he stated, and expressed the hope that the desks would facilitate effective teaching and learning and thereby improve the academic performance of the pupils and students.
Alhaji Seidu said he had initiated a project titled "one student one bicycle" to provide bicycles to school going-age children who had to walk distances to school to alleviate their plight.
He said the Siehkrom and Mallam were among the five communities in the municipality which had benefited from the project, assuring to ensure that more school children in the deprived communities benefited too.
