The Leprosy Aid Committee has paid tribute to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his outstanding support to lepers and leprosaria in Ghana.
Dr Bawumia, a patron of Lepers Aid Ghana, is renowned for his humanitarian efforts towards residents of the Weija Leprosarium. On New Year's Day, he hosted members of the leprosarium at his residence for a luncheon.
In recognition of his sustained benevolence, the Lepers Aid Committee presented Dr Bawumia with a citation of honour and appreciation.
The citation, presented by Father Andrew Campbell, Resident Director of the Weija Leprosarium, highlighted Dr Bawumia's unwavering commitment to improving the lives of individuals affected by leprosy.
"Your selfless contributions have set a standard of service that resonates across Ghana and beyond, and have brought renewed focus to improving the lives of leprosy sufferers," the citation stated.
The committee added, "In gratitude and respect, we honour you, Your Excellency. God bless you for your love and dedication."
Expressing his appreciation for the recognition, Dr Bawumia pledged to continue supporting the lepers as a patron of the Lepers Council.
Dr Bawumia and his wife, Samira, later joined in serving lunch to the cured lepers, further demonstrating their commitment to this cause.
Reflecting on his journey with the leprosarium, Dr Bawumia recalled, “Eight years ago, when I was moving into my official residence as Vice President, I did my housewarming with the lepers. As I prepare to exit, it feels right to hold another session with my friends.”
