The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has inaugurated a newly constructed Ayi Mensah District Police Headquarters in Accra for effective policing in the area.
The edifice, with air conditioners in all the offices, has a reception, four washrooms, eight offices, including two offices for the District Commander, and a conference hall.
Geographically, the new police headquarters inaugurated falls under the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality. However, with police administration, is within the Adenta Division of the Ghana Police Service.
At the inauguration on Friday, November 29, 2024, the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, said the edifice had been constructed to promote smooth operation and administration in the area to curb all forms of lawlessness and crimes effectively.
She emphasised the importance of peace and security in a democratic society to ensure that citizens go about their daily activities without any hindrances and impediments, adding: “I want citizens to have faith in the police as they discharge their official and mandated duties in our own interest.”
The MCE said a lot of resources went into the construction of the district police headquarters that had been inaugurated and there was, therefore, the need to ensure the police administration maintained the edifice to serve the intended purpose of good and effective policing in the area.
The District Police Commander for Ayi Mensah, Francis Zoya, who spoke on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, and the Police Administration, said the edifice had been completed and inaugurated at the appropriate time, as the police command was facing accommodation challenge.
He said the facility would, therefore, go a long way to decongest the offices for smooth administration at the district command.
The District Commander was very grateful and appreciative to the assembly for the facility, which would promote effective policing in the area, and assured that his outfit would provide foolproof security for the citizens always.
He, in the same vein, entreated the citizens to conduct themselves well in order not to fall prey to the law, adding: “The law is no respecter of persons.”
The Chief of Danfa, Nii Dzanie Afutu Brempong, commended the MCE and the assembly for the various developmental initiatives in the area over the period.
He cautioned the youth not to allow themselves to be used as conduits for violence in any circumstance, adding: “The law will not spare you when you frown upon it.”
He pledged that chiefs in the area would continue to cooperate with all stakeholders, especially the police, to protect lives and properties and urged all citizens to be law abiding and also to make peace a priority, since it could not be toyed with.
