Members of the International Scouts and Guides Fellowship (ISGF) Ghana Chapter have completed a seven-day peace walk from Kumasi to Accra.
The event, which ran from November 21 to November 28, 2024, witnessed hundreds of scouts and guides waving the Ghanaian flag along the route.
This walk aimed to promote unity and peace in Ghana ahead of the December elections.
It began at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and ended at the Palace of the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, in Accra, where the ISGF presented a message of peace to the Ga Mantse.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who received the peace message, expressed his admiration for the effort and dedication shown by the scouts during the event.
He congratulated the young men and women on their determination and commitment.
“I commend the ISGF Ghana Chapter for their commitment to promoting peace and unity.
“Your dedication to this cause is commendable, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of working together for a peaceful nation,” he said.
His praise underscored the significance of the walk in the context of Ghana’s upcoming elections, emphasising the need for collaboration and understanding among all citizens.
He also urged all Ghanaians to appreciate the efforts of the ISGF by prioritising peace and shunning violence during and after the elections.
The Board Chairman of the ISGF, Dr Albert Botchway, said that the walk did not only serve as a call for political peace but also sought to reinforce community solidarity.
“As we look to the future, let us remember that our shared values are stronger than any differences. Together, we can build a brighter, more peaceful future for our children and future generations,” he said.
Beyond promoting peace, the walk also aimed to raise funds for the construction of an ultra-modern training centre for scouts and guides in Efumkrom, Nsawam.
The President of the ISGF Ghana Chapter, Mr Andrew Botchwey, indicated that the funds raised through the event would go towards this initiative, which would benefit young people across the country.
He also emphasised the significance of unity in the face of the upcoming elections, urging citizens to set aside differences for the greater good of the country.
"With this event, we invite all Ghanaians to stand together, understanding that the future of our nation depends on the strength of our togetherness," he stated.
“As Scouts and Guides, we uphold values of respect, harmony and service. With the Peace Gathering 2024, we call on every Ghanaian to put aside differences, celebrate our shared identity, and promote peace when it matters most,” Mr Botchwey remarked.
