Work begins on the 6-kilometre Savelugu-Kumbungu and Dipale-Gusei Lot1 and Lot2 roads in the Savelugu Municipality of the Northern Region, to open up the municipality to facilitate trade.
The aim of the project which is to improve the quality of the existing roads, facilitate mobility within and between different communities to facilitate trade and service, is expected to be completed within 12 months.
The New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate (PC) for Savelugu Constituency in the Northern Region, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, on Saturday joined traditional leaders and the people to cut sod for work to commence.
The construction of the roads is being executed by two local Ghanaian contractors, Messrs Takara Bigiza Ventures Ltd and M INsaan company Ltd with funding from Government of Ghana (GoG).
At a short ceremony here in Savelugu the PC said the roads would be built with high quality standard material as much as possible, respecting the standards of safety to prevent and avoid accidents in the communities.
She stated that the idea was to deliver a road that would meet the necessities of the road users and the communities involved, promoting an environment of cooperation.
Hajia Fatahiya said the significance of the road rehabilitation was to highlight their socio-economic benefits for the people of Savelugu, Kumbungu, Moglaa, Bihi Naayili, and Tarikpaa.
She stated that the completion of the roads would go a long way to enhance access to quality educational and health centres in the communities and the constituency at large.
Hajia Fatahiya said over the past years she had initiated a number of road maintenance programmes in the municipality to ensure easy access to the various farming communities and to boost economic and social activities in the area.
“Today is another opportunity for me to give facelift to the Savelugu road connecting to Kumbungu District and other adjoining communities,” she added.
She, however, appealed to the chiefs and the people of the communities to cooperate with the contractors and his team to ensure the successful execution of the project within the time given.
The PC also appealed to them to vote for her come December 7 to continue with her developmental project for the people of the constituency.
The spokesperson of beneficiary communities, Nba Abukari Salam Baako, applauded the PC for coming to construct the roads for them.
He said this would go a long way to facilitate their movement when completed.
He assured the PC that they would liaise with the contractors to ensure that they do their work diligently without any hitches.
