MASTER’S PROGRAMME WELCOMES PIONEER CLASS
Ashesi University in collaboration with ETH Zurich has welcomed students for the Master's Programme in Mechatronic engineering.
A total number of 26 students, drawn from Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, would be given training in automation, production and robotics. Students who complete this programme would be gaining interdisciplinary knowledge in the design, optimisation, control and management of production processes, machines and systems.
The Master's Programme in Mechatronic Engineering would enable faculty from Switzerland based public University join forces with their Ghanaian colleagues to teach students at the Ashesi campus in Berekuso, Ghana.
Industry partners including Nestle and Tetra Pak are providing scholarships to eligible students. They also helped shape the programme curriculum development to ensure that graduates would have the requisite skills to fit into local organisations.
Furthermore, students will enjoy internship opportunities being provided by sponsors and industry players across their businesses in various African countries. According to the Vice-Chancellor of Ashesi University, Prof. Angela Owusu-Ansah, the Master's programme “prepares students for successful careers in these emerging fields, equips them with in-demand specialist competencies and a wide range of skills to pursue a career in Mechatronic Engineering."
Some of the newly admitted students expressed their comments:
"Coming to Ashesi has been a very exciting experience for me," said Miyang Miki, who completed her first degree at the University of Yaounde in Cameroon. "I hope that I will be able to connect more with all the other people I am meeting here and learn from them, besides my main goal of developing as an Engineer with relevant skills for Cameroon."
David Doamekpor from Ghana said "having already graduated from Ashesi, I understand the level of excellence here, I also recognise that ETH Zurich is a strong university as far as technology is concerned, and I am looking to tap into the combined expertise in this programme to better my skill set as an Engineer."
This joint effort by the universities is expected to produce a high-quality Engineering master's education in Africa.
