Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has announced entrepreneurship will be included in any new academic programme introduced by the University.
He said that would make students think about entrepreneurship at the early stage of schooling and prepare their minds to be job-creators and not job-seekers after graduation.
Prof. Asare-Bediako was speaking to the media on the sideline of a maiden Annual Students' Employability Camp (ASEC) organised by the University's Centre for Students Skills Enhancement on Monday in Sunyani.
Under the theme, "Creating an Ecosystem of Employable Youth for Ghana's Sustainable Development" with sponsorship by Total Ghana, Cowbell Ghana and Fidelity Bank, the three-day event was designed to equip final year students with employable skills for the job-market.
He said the ASEC programme had come to stay and assured beginning next semester, entrepreneurship would be included in the University's academic calendar for the benefit of all its students.
Prof. Asare-Bediako said since the country was choked with graduates with inadequate skills, the introduction of entrepreneurship into the academic calendar would produce more entrepreneurs to employ the jobless to reduce the unemployment burden on the government.
In a related interview, a participant, Ms. Louisa Ataa Sarpong Kyeretwie, a Level 400 Bachelor of Science Resource Enterprise and Entrepreneurship student praised the VC for the ASEC programme, saying the training would broaden her knowledge in entrepreneurship.
She added the training would also enlighten her more about interview skills, obtain proper grooming in curriculum vitae writing, raise her emotional intelligence and other soft skills needed to enhance her career competency in the corporate world.
