GCB Bank as part of its corporate social responsibility has donated some books to the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) for distribution of libraries in the country.
The books which is worth over GH¢120,000.00 is a classic collection of Ghanaian history written by Kofi Antubam titled “Ghana’s Heritage of Culture”
Speaking at the presentation, the Managing Director of GCB Bank, Mr Ray Sowah expressed the Bank's willingness and commitment to support education in the country.
“GCB cherishes education so much that any opportunity to support education is considered a priority at GCB and it is this reason that we deemed it expedient to donate these books to Ghana Library Authority in this regard."
Mr. Sowah hinted, while growing up the library was a great place to escape, as the library provided him the opportunity to read novels and science fictions that took him on an imaginative journey and also helped improve his vocabulary.
Mr. Samuel Essuman, Head of Finance at the Ghana Library Authority, who represented the Chief Executive Officer, thanked the Bank for the kind gesture and expressed the desire that the relationship will continue to help the growth of education in the country.
He said the GLA is constantly improving on infrastructure and the collection of books to help deliver on its mandate.
Mr. Essuman thanked GCB for the books, saying it will go a long way to shape the minds of readers.
Present at the presentation ceremony was Deputy Managing Director-Operations Mr. Samuel Amankwah, Head of Corporate Affairs Mrs. Thyra Obuobi, Branch Manager for Highstreet Branch Mr. Francis Nyarko and representatives from various Departments.
