What role do student play in education?
We have learned about the change of family, the stakeholders of education, and roles of a parent and that of a teacher.
Role of a teacher in education
Role of a parent in education
Students generally play minimal role in defining or governing the school system that educates them.
Although the whole point of education is to preparing students for their future, it is usually agreed that adults are the ones who run the show; learners are more focused on learning.
Nevertheless, there are still some key roles students must carry out to ensure success in their education.
ACTIVE Participants
By active, this means that students should contribute to classroom discussions by not only answering direct questions posed by the teacher, but answers questions posed by their peers.
Students should feel free to ask questions, or express their own concepts about a subject, not only to their teacher, but also their peers.
This will give students to construct their own knowledge about their learning, and apply if to their education.
Encouraged About Learning
If a student is truly interested in learning, it is his/her job to THINK.
When thinking, students should be able to uncover some prior experience or knowledge to apply this new learning to.
When doing so, they should mentally prepare themselves to read more about this new concept or idea.
Now, this does not always happen, but a student who wants to be actively involved in education, should THINK.

Task Monitor
The student’s role is to take given information or instructions and coordinate that task for himself or group members, and begin the task.
The student must be a task monitor by checking himself/herself in terms of on task study time, noise level, and quality work.
He or she should be responsible for gathering materials required for an assignment, when given directions to where tools can be found.
He or she should also put back materials when finished. These are simplistic roles, but roles which can be use in classroom.
Students take on the roles of coordinators, task master, noise monitor, clean-up/maintenance. While all students take on different main roles, all learners are still required to participate in the assignment and learning itself.
For example, just because one student is the noise monitor, does not mean his/her sole role is to tell their team to keep an appropriate noise level in the classroom. He/she must also participate in the task that the coordinator has assigned to him/her, and cooperate with team members to accomplish that task.
Taking Responsibilities
Student accountability occurs when students take an active role in their learning by recognizing they are accountable for their educational success or failures.
Student responsibility is demonstrated when students make choices and take actions which lead them towards their educational goals.
Responsible students take possession of their actions by exhibiting the following behaviours.
They:
• demonstrate academic integrity and honesty.
• attend and participate in classes, labs, and seminars, prepared and on time.
• complete the assigned work in a timely manner with attention to quality of work.
• avoid making excuses for their actions.
• communicate in a careful and respectful manner with professors, peers, and other members of the college community.
• are engaged learners who dedicate the required time outside of class to school work.
• act in a civil manner that respects the learning/social environment and complies with school policies outlined in the student constitution and school catalog.
• utilize school resources and seek aid when needed.
• respect diverse ideas and opinions.
• identify, develop, and implement a plan to achieve their academic goals.
