Assistant Superintendent of Police Kwame Tawiah as said that policing is a shared responsibility between members of the service and the general public.
“Since the Police cannot fight crime alone, there should be a collaborative effort between members of the service and the public, to expose criminals in the community.”
He said this at a Community Forum held at Sea Light Electoral Area in Tema New Town to inform members of the community on the important role they play in the fight against crime.
The Forum was jointly organized by Projects Abroad, a non governmental organization, the Ghana Police Service and the Assemblyman for the Sea Light Electoral Area, Mr Enoch Mensah Tetteh-Appoe.
“We can no longer sit in the comfort of our offices and design jacket-like solutions to peculiar problems facing particular communities,” he said.
ASP Tawiah appealed to the public to identify their problems together with the Police so that collectively lasting solutions could be found to them.
He again called on the public to embrace the Neighbourhood Watch Committee concept to help clamp down on criminals.
Chief Inspector Ellen Antwi, Officer in charge of the New Town branch of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, urged the people not to hesitate to report to her office all forms of violence against them.
Chief Inspector Olivia Turkson, Head of the Tema Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, asked the Public to continue to identify the shortcomings of the Police, to enable the service to improve on its
performance.
Mr Tetteh-Appoe, Assemblyman for the area, thanked the Police for the programme, and expressed the hope that it would be sustained to enable the residents know much more about their rights and
responsibilities.
