Abubakar Abu, a metal scrap dealer at Nkwabeng, a suburb of Sunyani, has been remanded by the Dormaa Circuit Court for allegedly stealing a bale of female headgear valued at GHC3,000 at the Dormaa-Ahenkro market.
Giving the facts of the case, Inspector Bismarck Boye Lartey told the court presided by Mr. Alexander Osei Tutu that the complainant, Madam Georgina Ansah was a trader who dealt in female garment and traded between Sunyani and Dormaa-Ahenkro.
He said the accused was a metal scrap dealer who visited the Dormaa-Ahenkro Tuesday market on March 15 this year where he allegedly committed the crime.
Inspector Boye Lartey indicated that the complainant packed her unsold goods into two separate bales at 1630 hours on that day and conveyed them to a spot near the market from where traders billed for Sunyani market the following day usually had their goods loaded onto an articulated truck to be delivered to in Sunyani.
Prosecution said while the complainant kept her load near the vehicle and waited for the driver to take her through their normal procedures, a gentleman on the articulated truck demanded an amount of GHC7.00 being her fee for the load and assured her of safe delivery of her goods.
“When the complainant called the next morning to pick her load, the driver told her that her load was left in Dormaa-Ahenkro the previous day since she did not pay the fee for the haulage”, prosecution told the court.
He said when the load was traced to Dormaa the complainant learnt that a gentleman from Sampa claimed he was sending it to her in Sunyani.
The police inspector told the court that the complainant’s own investigations led her to the accused who had displayed the female headgear for sale at the Sunyani market on March 23, this year.
He said the complainant raised the alarm and the suspect was arrested and sent to the Sunyani Police Station where he insisted in a caution statement that he bought the bale from someone else.
