A sod has been cut for work to start on the construction of a 260,000-dollar dining hall and a kitchen, under the School Feeding Programme for the Otinibi Basic School in the Ga East Municipality.
The project, which would be completed by the end of the year, is being financed by Prembaf, a non-governmental organisation under its Food For People (FFP) Project.
Speaking at the sod-cutting function last Friday, Mr Bernard Modey, Project Manager, said it was gratifying that the facility would provide the school children with balanced diet to help in their
physical and mental development.
This, Mr Modey said, would go a long way to help the pupils to study well, and prepare their future.
Mr Choro Adams Indoh, Assemblyman for the area, thanked the chief of Otinibi, Nii Kweidja Mensah III, for making land available for the
project, and hoped other traditional rulers in the area would emulate his good example.
Mr Joshua Kobla, Assistant Director at the Ga East Municipal Assembly, assured schools in the Municipality that the Assembly would readily support communities that initiated their own projects.
Madam Grace Ninsaw, Headmistress of the school, thanked the NGO for the gesture and said it would go a long way to increase school enrolment.
Madam Ninsaw gave the assurance that the facility would be put to good use.
Nii Mensah III, who chaired the function, appealed to benevolent organisations to initiate projects in the area to help to improve the
living standards of the people, because the traditional authority was prepared to release lands.
