A 68-member police cadet corps of Star Senior High School in Ho was on Friday inaugurated by Mr Alex Bedie, Volta Regional Police Commander with a warning to members to stay above board or be penalized.
He said the eight months training had instilled in them the spirit of voluntarism, discipline, time consciousness, honesty and modesty, which must reflect in all that they do.
Mr Bedie said he expected these qualities, coupled with lessons on community policing, motor traffic education and leadership skills to make them a prime ally of the police in ensuring law and order in society.
Star SHS, established five years ago is the first Second Cycle School to have a police cadet corps in the region.
Mr Philip Kitsi, Director of the school, which has 453 students, said it was an opportunity for young people from deprived communities, who form majority of students, to have a taste of policing.
He hoped the discipline associated with such regimented organizations would replicate in other students of the school and the communities in which they come from.
The Corps took the gathering, including staff of the school, parents and relatives and police officers through a silent drill and a slow and quick march.
Master Prosper Kwame Kunawotor, second year student, who was commander of the parade was adjudged the overall best cadet with Jemima Adabla, Vida Sabadu, Wisdom Ahadzi and Christian Ohene, winning the Police Training School commanding officer’s special prize, best in conduct, best in academics, school’s special award, in that order.
