The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya-Kwabre, Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, has reminded parents about the need to pay particular attention to the education of their children in order to provide them a secured future.
He said it was only through education that children could have fair share of existing opportunities in the society.
Mr Oppong Kyekyeku said this when he presented three computers and their accessories and assorted library books to the Apagya Basic Schools near Kodie on Thursday.
The District Assembly bought the computers while the library books were donated by some foreign-based non-government organizations.
“Education is my priority”, the DCE said, and appealed to all stakeholders to support the Assembly to improve education in the District.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku called for the strengthening of Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School Management Committees (SMCs) to promote quality teaching and learning in the schools.
Mr Ignatius Mwinbe-Ere Der, the District Education Director, urged school children to attend school regularly and to keep to their books.
He spoke of the need to strengthen supervision in the schools.
Nana Owusu Peprah, the Chief of Apagya, said they were grateful to the Assembly for the books and computers and pledged the community would continue to complement government’s development efforts through self-help.
They had on their own built an eight-bed room teachers quarters, clinic and rehabilitated an old workshop into a school library.
Nana Owusu Peprah appealed for the supply of medical equipment and the posting of nurses to the clinic.
