Pupils of Teacher Mota Primary School at Osu RE, in Accra on Thursday joined the lucky trail of the few privileged schools in Accra Metropolis to receive support for its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre.
The centre was furnished by Donewell Life Company Limited, (DLCL), a Life Insurance Company headquartered at Osu in Accra, with four computers and accessories estimated at about GH¢6,000.
Mr Samuel Oduro, Managing Director, DLCL, inaugurating the centre said pupils from cluster of schools within the community would have the
opportunity of being introduced to the basics of computer literacy and be abreast with new trends in ICT.
He stated that access to the facility would not only maximise the learning opportunities of pupils, but promote their educational capacity by
ensuring the development of the child's psychomotor, cognitive and social skills.
Mr Oduro commended authorities of the school for their sense of initiative, dynamism, commitment and teamwork to ensure a dream come true.
He said education had now become technology driven throughout the world and computer literacy had become a prerequisite for employment, adding "ICT has become an integral part of our daily personal lives, social, educational and business activities."
Mr Oduro said management had offered assistance with the donation of two water storage tanks to Osu Presbyterian Kindergarten and Osu Salem No. 5 School, textbooks to the best Business Student at the 54th Speech and Prize
Giving Day of Osu Presbyterian Senior High School and co-sponsored the nation-wide spelling Zee and Bee competitions to improve on the cognitive
skills of pupils.
Mr Godwin .H. Ahatsi, Head of Information Systems and Technology (IST) of the company, said management would provide regular ICT servicing and the necessary support to enable the school maximise benefits from the centre.
He explained that the new technology depended on low power, less support on CPU and ideal for educational institutions.
Ms Veronica Appiah-Kubi, Headmistress of the school, expressed gratitude to the management for its support, saying the centre would help advance ICT knowledge and education among pupils in the community.
She said although the school had 150 pupils and curricula for ICT learning, it had never had practical teaching or learning and called on
other corporate organisations in the Metropolis to emulate the gesture and help further expand the facility.
