The Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Somoah Obeng, has appealed to health professionals to use their health facilities to educate patients and the public to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He was speaking at the lunch of the National Health Insurance Scheme mass registration exercise at Nkawkaw on Tuesday.
Mr Obeng said extensive education and sensitization efforts were needed to ensure that the people took their drugs to reduce pressure on the scheme to make it more sustainable.
Mr Obeng said in spite of challenges facing the scheme, it had paid all claims for September while payment in respect of October 2010 would soon start and commended the scheme's caretaker committee and its management team for efficient management of the scheme.
The Kwahu West Municipal Mutual Scheme Manager, Mr Fredrick Dakurah, said the scheme had registered 63,000 people out of the 100,000 population of the municipality representing 62 per cent.
He said he hoped the mass registration exercise would increase the number to over 65,000 and urged the people to take advantage of the two
weeks mass registration exercise to register.
