A Florida nudist camp could be stripped of some of its home sites after the incorporation of its surrounding community, authorities said. Sunsport Gardens has 133 tent and trailer pads, but as part of Loxahatchee Groves, incorporated in 2006, it could lose some of them, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Wednesday.
Loxahatchee Groves expects to establish a density of one home per five acres once its land-use blueprint is finalized, which could mean only eight home sites for the 40-acre nudist camp, the town's Vice Mayor Dennis Lipp said.
Mayor Dave Browning said he'd prefer not to demand changes at the camp, which has been operating since 1965.
"My thought is we will probably allow them to keep the intensity they have now," Browning said. "We really don't want to put businesses out of
business."
The town council is expected to discuss the issue at its Dec. 7 meeting.
"This is a community decision, and we have to get together and see what we should do," Lipp said.
Sunsport Gardens owner Morley Schloss, who bought the resort in 2001, said he's not worrying.
"We have no expansion plans, and we haven't expanded since 2001.
