A 76-year-old Florida woman, missing for five days, was found alive in the trunk of her car in a hospital parking lot, authorities said. Mary Doretich Mitchell of New Smyrna Beach had her purse, money and keys with her when police opened the trunk in the parking lot of Bert Fish
Hospital, where she was taken for treatment, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Wednesday.
Police said she had "an altered mental status" but did not elaborate, the newspaper said.
Family and friends said they had not seen Mitchell since she drove away from her home on Friday.
On Tuesday, a police detective found Mitchell's 2005 Dodge Neon in the hospital parking lot and discovered her in the trunk.
The trunk was equipped with an emergency release inside and Mitchell's key fob had a button to open the lid.
How she got there was not explained, but police said foul play was not suspected, the Sentinel reported.
