The Wa Municipal Assembly has started distributing 2,000 free school uniforms and over 79,388 exercise books to basic schools in the Municipality as promised by the government.
Mr Yakubu Duogu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) distributed some of the items to children of the Kadowli Primary School on Thursday, at Kadowli, in the Upper West Region.
He urged the Municipal Education Directorate to ensure that the items reached the targeted beneficiaries rather than ending up in the markets for sale.
He charged the security services to be on the look out for those who would want to profit from the benevolent gesture of government to the
detriment of the pupils.
Mr Duogu said the Assembly had placed education as the number one development priority and as a result, it had since 2009 invested a total of GH557,535.70 on the provision of educational infrastructure for many basic schools in the Municipality.
Madam Scholastica Gyiele, the Wa Municipal Director of Education appealed to parents and guardians not to shirk their responsibilities
towards their wards and provide them with school uniforms and learning materials.
She said parents should guide their wards and provide them with all their needs to enable them to stay at school, stressing that, until all the
needs of the child is provided, the child would not be able to do well at school.
She urged the pupils to learn hard and to take good care of the uniforms and books.
About 1,851 exercise books were distributed to pupils of the Kadowli Primary School while 60 needy children among them got uniforms in addition.
