A fire at a hostel for immigrants killed seven people in Dijon, France, Sunday, officials said.
The fire started in a trash bin outside the nine-story building and jumped into the building's main stairwell, euronews.net reported.
More than 140 people were inside the immigrant hostel when the fire broke out and some were forced to jump from the windows to reach safety.
Radio France Internationale said firefighters arrived on the scene 10 minutes after receiving the alarm. Dozens of men, women and children were
taken to a temporary shelter as investigators tried to determine if the blaze was deliberately set.
Four people were seriously injured in the blaze and fumes overcame three of more than 90 firefighters responding to the scene.
