An Obuasi-based private radio station, Shaft FM, in collaboration with the Obuasi Government and AngloGold Hospitals, organized a blood donation exercise at Obuasi at the weekend.
The move was to help address the shortage of blood in the major health facilities in the Municipality.
Over 150 public spirited persons participated in the exercise by donating a pint of blood each.
Shortage of blood in the health facilities was an issue of great concern to residents in the Municipality following two major road accidents that occurred near Obuasi recently.
Ms Victoria Owusu, the General Manager of Shaft FM, commended companies including AngloGold Ashanti, Mining and Building Contractors, Tigo, UT Bank, PEV Minerals Water and Mactina Supermarket for their sponsorship towards the exercise.
She said life-saving was a collective responsibility and that was why the station had committed itself to periodically organize such exercises to get more blood to feed the hospitals.
Ms Owusu pointed out that lack of blood at health facilities was a serious threat to human life and therefore called on the public to continuously support programmes directed at helping to save the lives of people.
Papa Kwame Nyameke Acquatic, Event and Promotion Manager of Shaft FM, told the Ghana News Agency that the radio station was developing a number of health related programmes to educate the public on good health management.
He commended the donors for their participation and preparedness to contribute to save emergency situations and appealed to the wider public to support the blood donation efforts of the station.
