Dr Ashley Deans, a renowned physicist, educator and author will deliver series of lectures on Consciousness- based Education in Accra from November 1 to November 4.
Consciousness-based Education is a system that promotes the full development of the mental potential and serves as a simple solution to fundamental problems in education.
Dr Deans is coming to Ghana at the invitation of the Global Union of Scientists for Peace (GUSP) a non- profit organisation established to develop and apply the latest scientific knowledge and innovative programmes to prevent and defuse stresses and tensions that fuel violence and conflict.
The President of GUSP in Ghana, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa said in an interview in Accra that the visit of Dr Deans will serve as a launch pad for the activities of the Union.
He said GUSP is dedicated to the cause of peace, adding that the lectures to be delivered by Dr Deans will focus on how proven scientific techniques could be used to prevent and defuse political, ethnic and religious tensions.
One of these techniques is the Transcendental Meditation programme, an easy- to- learn, enjoyable-to-practice and scientifically verified mental technique that allows the mind to relax in order to develop its full potential.
Prof Akosa said it is the objective of the Union to get at least one per cent of the Ghanaian population to practice this technique.
He said the country would be a much better place devoid of tensions if this objective is attained.
"The Transcendental Mental technique will be explained in detail during the lectures to be delivered by Dr Deans," the Prof added.
"It is a widely held view that people will be calmer and less aggressive if they spent some time each day to meditate and this is the underlying principle of this technique."
