our teenagers from Essuekyir, a suburb of Cape Coast, were on Monday morning crushed to death when a Mercedes Benz trailer, veered off the road and run into them.
Kofi Adu, 13, Kwame Santo, 12, Mamoud Adama, 13, and his younger brother, Farouku Adama, 11, all pupils of a public school at Essuekyir, died on the spot.
The scrap dealer, Abubarkar Gedo, 32, Alhassan Iddursu, 25, Zenabu Alhassan, 18, Musah Seinu, 23, the baby, Rashida Alhassan, who were all sitting behind a heap of scrap metals, were injured.
Also injured were driver of the vehicle, Christian Kuma and his mate, Kofi Fiagbor.
An eye witness told GNA that the trailer with registration number GR 6495 E, travelling from Twifo-Praso towards Tema, run into the teenagers, who had gone to sell scrap to scrap dealers at the roadside near the Jukwa barrier.
The relatives of the deceased, some weeping uncontrollably, were at the Central Regional Hospital as Doctors and Nurses were frantically attending to the injured.
The Police at Cape Coast told GNA that the vehicle which had discharged iron rods, was returning to Tema.
The driver of the vehicle and his mate are helping the Police in investigations.
