Participants at the New Juaben Municipal
Governance Issues Forum Network (GIFNET) Citizens' Dialogue with Municipal officials have suggested the encouragement of parents to contribute towards the provision of infrastructure and learning materials in public schools.
The GIFNET is a forum that provides the opportunity for people at the grassroots to contribute to policies that affect them.
The participants said the over reliance on the government to provide all the infrastructure and the teaching and learning materials could not
work at times since all the facilities needed did not arrive at the time needed.
The participants in the dialogue included members of GIFNET, officials of the New Juaben Municipal education office, New Juaben Municipal
Assembly and some media personnel.
The dialogue was organized by GIFNET with financial support of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), following concerns raised by some citizens of New Juaben about the poor standard of education in public schools as compared with private schools in the municipality.
In a speech read on behalf of the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Asamoah, he called on all stakeholders in education to
get involved in the provision of adequate education infrastructure and inputs to complement the efforts of government, Parent/Teacher Associations, school management and teachers.
He said the assembly had begun the construction of more classroom blocks to end the shift system and school under trees phenomenon in public schools in the municipality.
The New Juaben Deputy Director of Education, Ms Adwoa Nkrumah, called for the relaxation of the long process that managers of public schools had to go through before being given the opportunity to organize extra classes.
