A circuit court in Cape Coast presided over by Mr. Richard Asiedu Badu on Wednesday sentenced a 45-year old farmer to a 10 years in jail in hard labour for defiling a five-year old KG 2 pupil.
The convict Yaw Seidu, a resident of Enyan Abaasa, pleaded guilty.
Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor told the court thatin June 2008, Seidu visited his friend who also lived in the same house with the victim.
He said Seidu asked the little girl to accompany him to buy some rice and beans (waakye) in town for her and informed her mother who agreed.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said after waiting for hours with an expectation that Seidu would bring her daughter back the girl's mother decided to follow up to the convict's house.
He said the woman met the victim on the way with GH� 1.00 and when she inquired from her why she had kept so long and who gave her the money, she said Seidu took her to his room and defiled her and warned her not to inform her mother.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said the woman reported the matter to the police at Abaasa where a medical form was issued for the girl to undergo medical examination at the hospital.
He said the report confirmed that the victim who was bleeding and had vaginal injuries as a result of the defilement.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said that the accused upon hearing that the police were on the look out for him went into hiding until he resurfaced on May 12 when he was arrested.
