A Senior Police Officer cited for contempt following his refusal to execute a bail bond in respect of an accused person on Thursday appeared before an Accra Fast Track High Court.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Isaac Kweku Asante, Amasaman District Police Commander refused to execute a court bail on Mark Kwei, an
accused on trial before the court.
Counsel for Kwei therefore cited DSP Asante for contempt.
Mr Rexford Wiredu, Principal State Attorney on behalf of DSP Asante apologised to the court presided over by Mr Justice Charles Quist, for his
conduct.
He said because Kwei had many cases and had to appear before a Circuit Court, DSP Asante was unable to execute the bail.
In addition, Kwei appeared before the Circuit Court on the same day.
The court in discharging DSP Asante, cautioned him to respect the orders of the High Court, adding "orders of the higher court supersedes that
of the lower courts".
