A 28-year-old messenger at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Mr David Yorke, was on Wednesday granted bail of GH2,000 with one surety for allegedly raping an 18-year-old hairdresser.
Yorke pleaded guilty with explanation and said it was his friend who allegedly raped the victim and the court entered a plea of not guilty for him.
Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor, prosecuting, told the court that about two weeks ago the girl attended a funeral in the company of her sister at Amamoma and Yorke and his friend, one Daniel Wilson, were also there.
Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor said during the funeral the accused persons invited the victim, took her to a nearby drinking bar and bought her a bottle of Guinness and got her drunk.
The prosecutor said the two men took her to Yorke's room at about 12 midnight where she was raped in turns.
He said the victim's sister went looking for her but was told by someone that she was seen with the two men.
The two men dumped the victim outside and bolted when they heard the victim's sister's voice.
Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor said the girl was weak and could not talk and was taken to the UCC Hospital where she was detained overnight.
A report was made to the UCC Police and Yorke was arrested.
Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor said Yorke in his caution statement to the police denied the offence and stated that it was his friend Daniel Wilson who raped the girl and that he was innocent.
